The Master List

The Master List is Vic’s compendium of software that supports knowledge management and information organisation in graphical form.

It includes mind mappers, concept mappers, outliners, hierarchical organisers, KM support and knowledge browsers, 2D and 3D.

The list aims to be comprehensive.  It includes current software and historical software.  If it is classed as “historical”, that means it is still available but not supported, while “historical (defunct)” means it is no longer generally available.

You need to select “Historical software” in the “Refine software list” tab to see this, otherwise you will see only current software.

Under “OS”, as well as Operating System, you can select “browser based” for applications that are actually OS-independent because they run in a web browser.  You can also find “network enabled” applications here.  That will show desktop applications capable of hooking up with a server on the Internet for sharing maps.

The section “What they say” in each software application’s entry is quoted from the vendors’ web sites.  Where possible, I select wording that is informative rather than marketing speak.

Please let me know of any software that isn’t here but should be: See CONTACT INFO in the right-hand column.
