What they say:  " Thinkmap Inc., provides software for displaying, animating, and navigating complex and interconnected information. Its Java-based developer solutions, such as Thinkmap Studio and Thinkmap Application Server, are the foundation for creating an exciting new class of enterprise applications and services. This new generation of complex, data-intensive knowledge management and e-commerce systems enables customizable, interactive interfaces that are intuitive and human-centric."
Observations:  A type of dynamically redrawn concept map software tool. The ability to drill down quickly and have the scene re-drawn on the fly and have multiple parents for a node makes Thinkmap similar to Startrees, Brain and 3D Topicscape.
Available in on-line and desktop versions. VisualThesaurus (see separate entry) was made with this.

What they say:  " The Visual Thesaurus is an interactive dictionary and thesaurus which creates word maps that blossom with meanings and branch to related words. Its innovative display encourages exploration and learning. You'll understand language in a powerful new way.

Say you have a meaning in mind, like ''happy.'' The VT helps you find related words, from ''cheerful'' to ''euphoric.'' The best part is the VT works like your brain, not a paper-bound book. You'll want to explore just to see what might happen. You'll discover -- and learn -- naturally and intuitively. You'll find the right word, write more descriptively, free associate -- and gain a more precise understanding of the English language.

The VT has over 145,000 English words and 115,000 meanings.

Roll over a meaning to see its definition and example sentences that express that meaning.
Meanings are color-coded to indicate parts of speech."

Observations:  This is an application produced with the ThinkMap Software Development Kit (see separate entry). VisualThesaurus can be purchased as a stand-alone application (Windows or Mac) or subscribed to as an on-line service.

Vegetable or royalty – take your pick with mindmapping

Whether you have vegetable or royal aspirations, I can confirm that you'll find mindmapping a great way of calming yourself down when you have many calls on your time, ideas buzzing round your head and objectives to meet. But it must fit your own personal style of thinking, and you must set aside the time to do it! That's how I bust stress, not by mapping out my stressful times. But we're all different, and maybe this will work for you.   [Vic]

Mindmapping to plan your life

To each individual reader, mindmap topics don't come much bigger than this -- on the personal level, anyway.   [Vic]

The mindmapping route to project-team building

This piece sets out what seems to me to be a novel use for mindmapping: Staffing a project, functional unit or department. It is a good illustration of the flexibility of the mindmapping approach. I often use mindmapping in drawing up job specifications and candidate profiles, but not quite in the way described here. I think I'll give it a try.   [Vic]

Research and mindmapping to kickstart your writing

Here is another slant on getting your writing going -- research and a dash of mindmapping.   [Vic]

Writing, come what may

There's only a brief mention of mindmapping here, but it's obviously important to the author. Anyway, to me it's a great article on getting moving with writing. I hope you find it so, too.   [Vic]
