What they say:  " Mind mapping designed for you
The benefits of using mind mapping techniques have been known for years. But for us, it goes way beyond trying to create a solution that allows a user to create digital mind maps. Our passion lies in providing tools that help a student organize their data and notes more efficiently. We understand the importance of working and collaborating in groups and have tried to help facilitate that process.
Mead Map is organized left to right, providing a much faster overview of your structure. It is the first mind mapping application made with keeping the limitations of a computer screen top of mind. By automatically collapsing topics that aren't being used, Mead Map allows you to work on the details without losing sight of the bigger picture. You will always know where you are on the map when using Mead Map."
Observations:  More a graphical outliner (like Comapping on which it is based). Rigid left-to-right structure so to my mind, misses all the freedom and creativity of mind mapping. Their emphasis is on use by students and the educational field.

What they say:  " PAUX is software to develop, manage and publicize dynamic individualized content by linking reusable semantic content objects semantically.
PAUX takes a own path of knowledge representation by linking single objects such as words, sentences, pictures, persons etc. to a network.
Therefore, PAUX can be classified only partially in the area of existing systems like CMS/ECMS, Wiki, LMS or LCMS. The semantic content objects of PAUX are to make knowledge available as filterable content for Websites, semantic Wiki, detailed-evaluated eLearning and individualized print media.
PAUX is a knowledge management system written in Java and addresses enterprises (also publishing houses) as well as colleges, offices and other authorities."
Observations:  There is little information about the user interface at the site (other than that suggested by the image here), but it says 'PAUX forms . . . multidimensional mindmap (and/or due to the semantics of the linkage more exactly: a concept map).' I interpret this to be drawing an analogy of how information can be connected, rather than how it is presented. Probably this software does not have a graphical interface but the image hints at a tree-structured outline form. The product description indicates that its structure is not limited to a strict tree, but can support node cloning (multi-parent children).
Written in Java so I assume it is multi-platform, but I cannot see an explicit statement about platforms.

Assessment by concept map

This piece discusses the nature of knowledge, the difficulty in measuring achievement in the three types of domain knowledge, and how concept maps offer one way of judging students' knowledge structure.

Framework for mind mapping

Here is a link to a set of free templates for many types of mind maps. This is good solid stuff, and if you have MindManager, there's no reason not to get it.
But if you don't have MindManager, well, there's still no reason to hold back - go and pick up the MindManager Viewer from MindJet's site. That is also free.

Knowledge mapping for communities

Here's an interesting slideshow in which authors Simon Buckingham Shum and Alexandra Okada make a case for a move away from text towards knowledge or mind mapping presentation in a knowledge community. Their objective is to change cognition, no less.

Visual mapping and recession-proofing your job

It looks like businesses are in for a tough time in 2008 and beyond. If your employer downsizes, how can you take steps to make sure you're one of the survivors?

Here are the Knols on mind mapping

Here's a link to my main Knol entitled "mind mapping". There are cross reference items on related terms as well.
