What they say:  " Branching Story Authoring Software is a web-based tool that allows instructional designers to create, modify, share and collaborate on branching stories behind immersive training simulations. Branching story is created using intuitive graphical user interface. You can arrange different colored containers that represent characters, dialogs, choices and actions. By doing so, you define simulation flow. Clicking on each container produces a pop-up window with textual data and other details for that simulation point, such as dialogs text, trainee choices, assessment for each choice, score, etc.

The interface provides easy visualization of the entire story, as well as access to details at any point. Since the tool is web-based, the branching story is accessable to all authorized personnel who is working on the simulation for review and, if authorized, for modifications."
Observations:  Part of ICTS, Hortus is the branching story authoring component. It is software that allows users to create a map of simulation flow for communication / branching story based simulations. Pricing is complicated. Hortus: subscription $50/mth; purchase $395. ICTS: hosted $5,000.00 setup (incl. 6 months hosting / support); thereafter $200/month; purchase $10,000+

What they say:  " Collaborative Knowledge Management (or CKM) is a tool that helps you create company's knowledge base in a collaborative environment, engage employees and help them visualize complex processes or procedures by using interactive graphical interface. The system works as a graphical wiki-style knowledge base, where information is linked to flowcharts and diagrams illustrating business processes, procedures or structures. The flowcharts can be created and reviewed by a geographically dispersed team in a synchronous collaborative environment of Second Life, and / or individually on the web -- web and Second Life interface are completely compatible -- team members can migrate from one to another for creating, updating and reviewing information.

cKM utilizes drill-down approach: each container in the flowchart along with the text information, web links and landmarks (in Second Life) can contain other flowcharts."
Observations:  Alternative pricing: $1,500.00 one time fee if the web area / database is hosted on your network.

Vegetable or royalty – take your pick with mindmapping

Whether you have vegetable or royal aspirations, I can confirm that you'll find mindmapping a great way of calming yourself down when you have many calls on your time, ideas buzzing round your head and objectives to meet. But it must fit your own personal style of thinking, and you must set aside the time to do it! That's how I bust stress, not by mapping out my stressful times. But we're all different, and maybe this will work for you.   [Vic]

Mindmapping to plan your life

To each individual reader, mindmap topics don't come much bigger than this -- on the personal level, anyway.   [Vic]

The mindmapping route to project-team building

This piece sets out what seems to me to be a novel use for mindmapping: Staffing a project, functional unit or department. It is a good illustration of the flexibility of the mindmapping approach. I often use mindmapping in drawing up job specifications and candidate profiles, but not quite in the way described here. I think I'll give it a try.   [Vic]

Research and mindmapping to kickstart your writing

Here is another slant on getting your writing going -- research and a dash of mindmapping.   [Vic]

Writing, come what may

There's only a brief mention of mindmapping here, but it's obviously important to the author. Anyway, to me it's a great article on getting moving with writing. I hope you find it so, too.   [Vic]
