| What they say: |
"
gjots2 is a simple jotter application for your desktop - an outline processor. You can use gjots2 to organise your jottings into a tree structure, adding thoughts and miscellany as you go. You can get it to spit out HTML, XML, postscript, pdf, man etc etc (see the online manual for an example of the HTML conversion). You can use it to 'mind-map' your compositions - write down all your thoughts and then start organising them into a tree. By manipulating the tree you can easily reorder your thoughts and structure them appropriately. gjots2 supports the use of ccrypt, gpg and openssl to encrypt and decrypt files. Just make sure the encryption packages that you want to use are installed as they are not all a standard part of all Linux distributions. gjots2 is written under the GNU Copyleft GPL so please note the terms and conditions under the license section of the manual. Broadly speaking the program is free of charge and free of restrictions on what you can do with it, except restrict it - in other words, it's liberated or 'libre' as well as free as in free beer, but that's much less important.
Since version 2.0.0, gjots2 is implemented in Python and pygtk for GTK-2.
Internationalisation and Localisation French, Russian, Italian, Czech and Norwegian versions are complete and Hungarian is already under way." |

"
Spinscape, an application people can use to structure the countless bits of digital information we are faced with daily. What does this mean? Well, with Spinscape you can brainstorm, collaborate, tag, link, and navigate through information more quickly and easily than ever before." |
| Observations: |
The press release for Spinscape, dated April 2008 says "With Spinscape, our goal is to create the next level of mind mapping, 'Mind Mapping 2.0'. They're a bit late, I'd say, with Bubbl.us, Glinkr, Kayuda, Mappio, Mind42, Web of Web, WiseMapping, Comapping, Mapul, MindMeister, Mindomo, MEADmaps all in the Mind mapping 2.0 space, some since 2006. |

Articles
Here is another slant on getting your writing going -- research and a dash of mindmapping. [Vic]
There's only a brief mention of mindmapping here, but it's obviously important to the author. Anyway, to me it's a great article on getting moving with writing. I hope you find it so, too. [Vic]
The key to getting something useful out of this article is to read the author’s title carefully. Mind mapping simplifies the process of project estimating -- it doesn’t simplify the actual task-time estimation. Every project manger knows that the work of a project must be broken into separate and manageable units for estimating. To look at a project and think “That’s about a week’s effort” is a recipe for frustration and missed targets. Mindmaps, spider diagrams and bubble charts are excellent for the first phase of breaking a project into manageable parts. For me mindmaps, as strictly defined by Buzan’s rules, are less suitable than spider diagrams for this type of analysis, but we can assume that Dr. Mariaraj is not being too strict in his use of the term below. [Vic]
I believe these rules are well worth following if you use mindmaps for learning. They are very hard to follow completely and rigidly - and its not worth trying I have found - if you use mindmaps in adult life, in your work or projects.
This comes up from time to time - usually in the form of "Buzan didn't invent mind mapping".
