Though not a mind mapping application, the concept maps on the NDSL site are of great
value in science and mathematics education so are included here.
The SMS maps are delivered via services protocols: CSIP and JavaScript API. These are
used to create the user interfaces that people use to interact with and view the maps.
The protocols are able to deliver interactive maps as well as static images of the maps.
We don't have any documentation for the JavaScript API at this point but this should be
available by our Annual Meeting in November. For the CSIP, which generates the maps,
you can take a look at the Concept Map Service documentation - - and the Concept Map Service
explorer on the DLESE site.
When you use the explorer, change the Base URL to the NSDL instance (http://strandmaps.
nsdl.org/cms1-2/). Currently it points to the DLESE instance at http://cms.dlese.org/cms1-1/.
Using the explorer, you can generate a list of all maps (near the bottom of the page in
the 'Test Query request' section), and pull out individual maps by clicking the 'Retrieve
a Benchmark' button and replacing the ObjectID data with the map id. The maps are
available in several alternative formats including, PDF, SVG, JPEG, and TIFF. To generate
a map with one of these formats, replace the 'Format' attribute. This information is
described in detail in the documentation linked to below.
